How To Set Goals The Easy Way
Using goals to move forward
Setting goals is extremely simple, though deciding what goals to set for yourself can take some time. Making a list of everything you want to do in life is a good place to start.
Getting Started
It doesn’t matter what you write, and the more ideas you have, the better. When making the list, try not to think about whether something is possible or impossible, but instead write as if it were a wish list where you could have anything you wanted.
You are one step closer to achieving your goals by doing this, as many of our goals are simply left in our minds and forgotten about because we believe we are incapable of achieving them. However, you’d be surprised at how many things you thought were impossible were achievable if you just took the time and made the effort to pursue them.
After making your wish list, pick five goals you want to start working on immediately. These goals can be anything you want, but to give your life balance, choose one goal for each area of your life. A financial, romantic, personal, spiritual, or health goal, for example, is a good place to start.
However, do what feels right to you, so if you want three financial goals and two health goals, that’s fine. However, concentrating your goals in a single area will unbalance your life.
While it may be tempting to set more than five goals, five is a good starting point because it allows you to focus your mind on a few specific goals and devote more of your energy to achieving them. If you set too many goals at the outset, you may become overwhelmed and give up before you even begin.
Once you’ve mastered goal setting, you can start adding more goals later. In fact, having as many goals as possible is a good idea, but only when you are comfortable with the goal-setting process.
The next step is to write down the five goals you’ve chosen in a goal format. Simply write your objectives in the present, positive tense. For instance, I have or I am.
This is critical because it tells the mind that this is what you should have rather than what you want or will have. As a result, using I Will or I Have should be avoided.
Now that you have your goals written in goal format, review them daily and rewrite them in the morning and evening to cement them in your mind. The more you concentrate on your objectives, the more determined you will be to achieve them.
Final Thoughts
Setting goals for ourselves and working toward them is an important part of being human. The path to our goals may not always be smooth or easy, but having goals, no matter how big or small, is part of what makes life enjoyable. It gives us a sense of meaning and purpose, guides us in the right direction, and keeps us interested and engaged, all of which contribute to our overall happiness.
