Reasons To Start Your Day With a Smile

Waking up in the morning can be challenging, especially if you’re feeling drained from staying up late the night before or dealing with stressful situations during the day before. However, you can make your mornings more productive and enjoyable if you start your day with a smile on your face.

This small change will improve your mood and help you feel more positive throughout the rest of the day. Learn more about why it’s beneficial to start your day with a smile below!

Do You Need Money to Be Happy?

You can experience greater happiness, peace of mind and stress relief with minimal financial resources. In fact, one study indicates that having money is not necessarily directly related to your level of happiness. What it is actually linked to is how you spend it.

When you buy things or pay for services that are meaningful and fulfilling to you, such as eating out at your favorite restaurant or going on vacation, you’re likely to enjoy increased levels of well-being from them. On the other hand, buying things just because they are expensive or trendy doesn’t make you any happier than you were before spending your money.

Improved Confidence

Smiling for no reason can help you feel better about yourself, which in turn can actually boost your confidence. Smiling makes people around you more comfortable as well. A smile is contagious and people love seeing happy faces.

If you smile before leaving your house, those feelings of happiness and confidence will carry over into other aspects of your day, even before any interactions with others take place. Not only will smiling make others want to be around you more, but it can also make others perceive you as being more approachable and personable than usual.

So if you have trouble approaching strangers or talking to new people in general, start by smiling at them first so they’ll feel more inclined to come talk to you!

How Happy Are You? Questions to Ask Yourself

Everyone is different, but there are certain things that we can all do to ensure our happiness. Take time out of your busy day and pause for a moment to reflect on yourself and how you’re feeling. If you’re not happy with your situation, then it might be time to change things up!

Here are some questions that you can ask yourself to make sure you’re moving in a positive direction. It doesn’t matter what your reasons are, there is always room for improvement! If there is one thing I’ve learned over my years of working with clients, it’s that they were already where they wanted to be; they just didn’t know it yet.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

What will it take to get there?

What are you doing now to help reach those goals?

How can you improve upon them so that they align with your vision of who you want to be?

Remember: The only person standing between where you are now and where you want to be is YOU.

Better Mood Throughout the Day

Starting your day with a smile can help you stay in better spirits throughout the day. Making eye contact and saying hello to people you pass on your commute, for example, can make you feel more connected and less isolated.

Being cheerful will help your interactions throughout the day go more smoothly as well, you’ll be more likely to get along with coworkers and have pleasant conversations with clients. Most importantly, starting your day with a smile gives you time to yourself in order to plan out what’s most important for you to accomplish that day. Which means being able to focus on other tasks instead of stressing about all of them at once. That ability is valuable by itself!

Higher Productivity at Work

We’ve all had those days where we just couldn’t get anything done at work. Whether it’s procrastination, distracted employees or other factors, your company is suffering as a result. One of the best ways to solve that problem?

Try something that most people dread: forcing yourself to smile at work. Yes, seriously. A recent study out of Britain suggests smiling can help make you and everyone around you happier and more productive!

Now there are certainly caveats to keep in mind here. Smiling might not be appropriate for some jobs or some office cultures, but in general, forcing yourself to show those pearly whites can have benefits (even if you don’t feel like it).

Don’t Worry About the Little Things

Each day, there are things you have to do and things you don’t have to do. But no matter how big or small your to-do list is, it’s important not to sweat over what you can’t control. Worrying about nonessential tasks can take away from your overall productivity and make it difficult for you to achieve your goals.

Keep yourself from stressing about irrelevant concerns by remembering that some things aren’t worth getting upset over. It will only cause problems if you allow it. Focus on what’s directly in front of you, then move on when necessary. Things will work out how they were meant to; there’s no need for anxiety.

Happiness and Personality

For years, personality psychologists have argued over whether personality traits like cheerfulness or optimism actually affect our happiness. Some scientists say that extroverts are happier because they’re more social, whereas others argue that extroverts are more social because they’re happier.

But a new study published in Psychological Science suggests that your morning mood might be linked to how you view yourself and your place in society and that could have an impact on how happy you are overall. For example, even if someone woke up grumpy and optimistic one day, they would still report feeling much happier than someone who had woken up equally grumpy but with a pessimistic attitude about their future.

Why Living in the Moment Makes Us Happier

So often, we get lost in worries about what could happen or regrets about things that have already happened. This makes us miserable. Since each day is truly a gift, it helps to wake up every morning with a positive outlook and goals that you can look forward to achieving.

Research indicates that those who make an effort to live in the moment are happier overall than those who live in either a past focused or future focused manner. Studies show that people who tend to dwell on negative memories or worry too much about what might happen during tomorrow’s meeting experience high levels of psychological distress, while people who focus on living in the moment tend to be more open, friendly and easygoing.

Conclusion

Nothing will make you feel better than starting your day with a smile. You will find that if you act happy even when you don’t feel like it, that feeling will come back to you, making your morning even more bright and full of positive energy.

It’s hard to smile when life throws us curve balls but by smiling we are able to release endorphins into our body giving us feelings of euphoria and happiness. It only takes thirty seconds to smile so why not do it before checking Facebook or watching news?

Life is too short for fake smiles or pouting faces, so start your day with some positivity. Enjoy your day!
