How would you like to achieve your goals in life? Would this make your life better? Let’s learn how to take the steps in the right direction.

You have your dreams! So, how do you go about making it happen?

First, pretend it’s real. See every detail as if you could reach out and touch it. The emotions of being there are palpable. For example, if you want a specific car, what type is it? What shade is it? Imagine yourself sitting in it as if it were brand new.

How does it make you feel? What does it smell like? Take a drive in your car. Drive with the top down if you have a convertible! Feel the wind blowing through your hair and in your face. Listen to the sounds around you. Take a real test drive in one if you can.

Take a picture and put it somewhere you’ll see it every day. Repeat this visualization several times a day until it becomes second nature to you. This action is significant because your subconscious will assist you in reaching your goals and realizing your dream.

What is the next step?

Then, to get there, break the big dream down into specific, measurable goals. If you want something that costs a certain amount of money, such as a car, you will set a date for when you will have this money.

Once you’ve decided on a date, divide your timeline into segments. Maybe you set the date for a year from today. So the next step is to divide that into goals for each month, then goals for each week, and finally goals for each day. It may be simpler to begin with days and then multiply out to weeks and months.

What comes next?

Now that you know your specific timeline, you must determine the specific actions you can take to achieve each goal. If it is a monetary goal, as in the preceding example, you know how much money you need to save each day. So you must now determine what actions you must take each day in order to accomplish this.

What about a different goal?

If your goal is to complete a project, your timeline will be broken down into different steps that you must complete in order to complete the entire project. For example, if you’re writing a book, you might need to do some research first.

So the first significant step toward that goal is to complete the research. Then you must schedule time to complete your basic outline. Then comes the time to finish each chapter. Then comes the editing phase.

Each major step can be broken down into smaller steps that must be completed each day in order to finish the book by the deadline.

Visualizing it

Now that you know what you’ll need to do each day to reach your big goal, consider whether each day’s task is reasonable. Tell the truth. You have a plan if you know you can do what is required each day.

If meeting each day’s requirement will be extremely difficult, then extend your timeline until you have something you know you can do every day. You’re setting yourself up for success this way.

Final Thoughts

It’s true what the ancient philosopher said:

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

No matter how big your dream is, if you break it down into baby steps that you can do every day, your path to success will be filled with the joy of accomplishing many goals.

Reaching your smaller goals will ensure that you are well on your way to realizing your dream. You will gain the confidence you need to keep going, as well as the desire to do whatever actions are required each day.

Celebrate even the smallest accomplishments, and enjoy your journey to certain success!
