You’re probably already aware that the midterm elections are coming up in November of 2022, but you might not know why these elections are so important. The past two years have seen an immense amount of change and action on behalf of the Democratic Party, and the elections will likely see even more movement in favor of one party or another depending on how you vote on your ballot. Read this article to learn about seven reasons why the 2022 midterm elections will be epic!

The Washington Train Wreck

Perhaps no state in America has been more central to political news in recent months than Washington. The turnover of personnel in President Donald Trump’s administration, including multiple cabinet shakeups, and a slew of scandals has made for an interesting narrative — and one that will only continue to develop.

It seems likely that with all of these storylines colliding, it will be difficult for political pundits to see much else. The perfect storm is brewing over Washington, and perhaps nowhere else will our midterms be affected quite like there.

Dislike, Inc.

Not all political news is good political news. In fact, as we’re learning more and more these days, a lot of it is downright distasteful. One way to fight back is by voting — and another way is by supporting groups like DISLIKE, Inc.

The organization provides a platform for people to safely record their thoughts on politicians or policies they don’t agree with and, perhaps most importantly, they make sure that everyone knows who those dislikes are from.

By helping everyday citizens engage in discourse and fight back against an often oppressive system, DISLIKE (formerly Like) continues to shed light on an issue our government has been slow to address: transparency for politicians and their actions.

We Have Never Been So Divided

The U.S. has never been as politically divided as it is today. While we are, by and large, still a nation of moderates, some of our divisions run deep enough to throw even a presidential election into chaos if we weren’t careful.

The first midterm elections held under a newly-elected President will test not only whether or not people want his brand of change in Washington but also how resilient our democracy can be under such great stress. If you’re interested in politics and like to get your political news on Twitter or Facebook, it’s hard to find more bitter points of view than what you might find between now and November of this year.

What Will Happen If We See a Red Wave

Republicans had high hopes for a “red wave” in the 2022 elections after storming to power in blue-leaning Virginia and nearly winning the governor’s race in New Jersey last fall. While Democrats were uninspired, the Republican base was on fire.

However, numerous data points in recent weeks have indicated that Republican prospects for a landslide victory are fading. While the president’s party typically performs poorly in midterm elections, there are signs that this year may be an exception, allowing Democrats to control one or both chambers of Congress.

In midterm elections, the opposition party almost always gains seats in Congress. To gain a majority in the House, Republicans must gain five seats (out of 435) and one in the Senate (out of 35). The overturning of Roe v. Wade has dampened their momentum, but the party can still take both chambers of Congress. If Republicans take both houses my guess is we will see the following:

Impeach Biden
Investigate Hunter Biden
Stymie Biden’s Agenda
Debate the Safety Net (Social Security and Medicare)

Political Anger is Rising Rapidly

Rising political anger is one of the most commonly cited reasons why many predict an electoral revolution in 2022. Dissatisfaction with the government is as high as it’s ever been, and angry rhetoric from both parties will only serve to further fuel that fire.

It’s unclear how things will play out once voters hit their local polling places, but it seems likely that at least some of that anger will find a place in those voting booths come election day. The result? A political environment more contentious than any other in history; regardless of who ends up on top.

People are Done With the Same Old, Same Old

If you ask me, the solution is simple: People are done with the same old, same old in 2022, and they are looking for a new way forward. Things won’t change overnight — not when we’re talking about overturning an entrenched two-party system that can trace its roots to 1787 — but I think it’s going to happen.

With more candidates like Dr. Oz running for office and influencing the conversation about what’s possible, 2022 is shaping up to be one of those moments in history where things will get shaken up; whether you’re voting Democrat or Republican. If things don’t change by 2022, it’ll be a shocker and will mean Americans have already given up on their democracy. What do you think?

Change Is Coming!

If you like history, you’re going to love what is coming in 2022. Most people don’t realize how long it takes for real change to take place and it often happens when we least expect it, but if there is anything that can change your life and indeed America as a whole — it is midterm elections in 2022.

It will be interesting to see how President Trump responds to these developments because if he continues on his path he could find himself becoming an irrelevant footnote in American political history. A lot can happen between now and then though so all of these predictions should be taken with a grain of salt.

Conclusion

You probably won’t see anything on an electoral map that looks all that different in 2022, but it’s going to be epic because of one simple change: millennials will finally outnumber baby boomers. And no group has shifted our nation’s politics like those born between 1982 and 2000.

In 2008, millennials surpassed baby boomers as a share of eligible voters (18 to 29 years old) for the first time. By 2020, millennials are expected to make up more than 30% of eligible voters. The bottom line is to get out and vote.
